I’m afraid Mr. Cheney and the rest of the criminals will ride into sunsets of pampered luxury. The evidence that the administration violated international law is overwhelming, and in a functioning democracy a trial for war crimes would be inevitable. However, Watergate and the Iran Contra experiences set the terrible precedents of pardoning high officials who commit high crimes, all in the name of "national healing." Accordingly, Obama says he’s inclined to turn the page and focus on the future -- as if bringing individuals to trial under the face of such massive evidence is a choice.
