Keyboard Commandos

Is there anything more simultaneously infuriating and hilarious than right wing bloggers and writers playing warrior from the safety of their mothers’ basements?

Not that I’m aware of.

If you’re not fully up to speed on this (and even if you are), take a look at this golden oldie from the Smithantics archives. Read it before you read the rest of this post. It’s one of my favorites.

Then read about the latest follies of the 101st Fighting Keyboardists.

Here’s some highlights:

“. . .But I felt gradually exhausted since September 11th, 2001, [because] it's very dispiriting trying to keep going in this phase of what is a very long conflict. And the reason I do it is because I want us to win. I don't particularly like journalism. I don't particularly like writing newspaper columns. I'm sick of having to make what I think should be an obvious case again and again and again. And I'd much rather pack it in and sit on my porch in New Hampshire and enjoy the view of the mountains. But I do it because I want us to win.”

“I'm sitting in the Empire State Building. Michael, I'm sitting in the Empire State Building, which has been in the past, and could be again, a target. Because in downtown Manhattan, it's not comfortable, although it's a lot safer than where you are, people always are three miles away from where the jihadis last spoke in America. So that's...civilians have a stake in this. Although you are on the front line, this was the front line four and a half years ago.”

“[W]e're all, in a sense, we're all conscripted in this war. Those 3,000 people who died on September 11th, they weren't serving forces, they were just fellows who got up in the morning and went to work, or went to Logan Airport and got on a plane. And that's the thing. We're all conscripted in this war, whether we know it or not.”

“Carrying Zarqawi’s Baby”

The winguts have gone into full attack mode on Jill Carroll!

Scroll through the latest five or six posts on Think Progrees, and, if you’re an American, be embarrassed.

So many assholes with media bullhorns…they’re ripping my soul to shreds.

Hippie Traitor Bitch

Atrios on the release of Jill Carroll and the bizarre wingnut reaction:

Glad she was released. As far as I can tell the wingers hate her because she actually cared about the Iraqi people.

What are we doing there again?
Fucking jack-offs.

The Plague of Ignorance and Idiocy

I guess I’m a shitty blogger, because I’m really struggling to come up with stuff to write about here. Amazing, isn’t it? The Republic is careening deeper everyday into an unimaginable hell, and I’m running out of things to write about?

Maybe it’s the fact that every development in this nearly six-year nightmare (we won’t even count the Lewinski years) is rooted in the same four inter-related causes:

— The criminal GOP thugocracy

— The Democratic “leadership” that enables the criminal GOP thugocracy

— The conservative media establishment that advances the cause of the criminal GOP thugocracy

— The lazy, stupid, immoral majority.

And I’m sick of talking about it, because it’s not showing any signs of going away. I'm sick of not having anything positive to write about. I'm sick of the lack of progress. I'm sick of this intolerable impasse. Fuck, it just goes on and on. Don't talk to me about patience. It's been nearly six fucking years of this shit.

I used to think that corruption of this magnitude would eventually be exposed and dismantled, that the moral conscience of America would rise up and call bullshit on this massive injustice. But, of course, as we have seen, we're nowhere near that point.

Nowhere near.

What a thoroughly horrifying, soul-shattering realization that is.

The corruption is so deeply entrenched, and this predominantly middle-class country is so fat, stupid, lazy, and morally asleep that a only a fucking meteorite might possibly break the status quo.

(Uh, scratch that. The equivalent of a meteorite hit the Gulf Coast, yet the status quo remains. Nevermind.)

So sorry if my glass isn’t half full, or if I’m not offering constructive solutions. But, frankly, I’m not the problem. And if you’re reading this, chances are that you are not the problem either.

The problem is the legions of derelict slobs and assholes who have through their own willful or genuine ignorance managed to escape the realization that this country has seriously gone off the tracks. They voted for this shit, and they'll vote for it again.

They are killing this country.

They have allowed material abundance to unmoor them from critical thinking, from basic standards of right and wrong. They are an embarrassment of history – lazy, irresponsible, immoral, complicit in evil.

They are the problem.

And look around you. They are everywhere.

A country with even a molecule of collective moral consciousness and intelligence wouldn’t have come within sniffing distance of a Bush presidency.

Maverick

This is exquisite.

Make sure to listen to straight-shootin, ain’t-no-BushCo-lapdog, practically-a-Democrat McCain squirm on the audio.

Er...um...huh, huh....

Lying Sack of Shit

That lies of this magnitude— uttered by the most powerful person in the world — go unchallenged by the mainstream press or any other public official is beyond comprehension.

These people make up their own reality and get away with it.

Only the bloggers notice.

Oh my god.

Petrified

From the Kos post linked below:
In the House, Democrats under Pelosi's leadership have been all but neutered. How many ethics complaints has Pelosi and her team filed? None. And they ostracized Chris Bell when he filed his complaints against DeLay. How did Pelosi react to Lois Slaughter's seminal report on Republican corruption? She quickly and meekly pulled it from her website when Republicans raised a stink. She just attacked Feingold for introducing his censure resolution. And she's leading the charge to destroy sites like this one by regulating them to death. The pattern is clear -- target and eliminate any party individual or institution that stands up to the Republican juggernaut.
Pelosi: Another compromised Democratic “leader” afflicted with the disease of chronic inaction and GOP thug enablement. Risk-averse weaklings like Pelosi are going to make my fucking head explode.

Tales of the Bizarre: The GOP Still Poised for Success

Here’s the kind of post I would write if

A) I was smarter
B) I had time
C) I was paid to blog like the folks at Daily Kos

How Do You Defeat an Insurgency and Win Hearts and Minds?

Duh!

You carpet bomb.

Sheesh! We’ve seen how well it worked in Vietnam.

Digby has more.

Have You Seen Me?

I was going to title this post “MIA”, but that would imply that there is “action” on the Democratic front.

Taking a cue from Scott’s comment on the last post:

Where the fuck is Dean?

He is the Chairman of the Democratic party. His entire existence is devoted to crafting the Democratic opposition strategy and message. Yet he is presiding over one of the great rollover jobs in political history.

Oh my god, the Democrats are so fucking weak it is making my head split open.

They hung Feingold out to dry so as not to upset the Boy King.

Bush is on the fucking ropes (33 pecent approval) and the Dems are petrified of delivering the knockout punch.

This is truly the most inept political operation in history.

And I'm supposed to go to the polls and vote for these clowns -- these quivering, spineless, piss-scared, hand-wringing, capitulating wussies?

Don’t Let the Door….

Kevin Drum — who blogs from my home town of Irvine —often provides intelligent, thoughtful, well-researched commentary from a liberal perspective. That’s why he’s on my blog roll.

Make that “was” on my blog roll.

Bye, Kevin.

You’ve been asking for this for months now.

Have at it, Guys

I'm buried at work and have no time to blog.

I will say this: We’ve been hearing for years now about Bush’s declining fortunes (tanking poll numbers, declining support among Rethugs, blah, blah) and the worsening situation in Iraq (i.e., Clusterfuckistan).

Years.

So, what are the consequences?

Talking about BushCo’s problems doesn’t mean shit to me as long as BushCo is still firmly in power.

I don’t think president Cheney gives a rat’s ass about this chatter.

He’s too busy fucking the country.

Anyway, let’s load up the comments box with some wacky banter.

Why Even Bother with Election 2008?

The media whores have already called it. “Maverick” McCain is going to beat "socialist" Hillary like a red-headed stepchild.

And you thought our national nightmare was going to end with the expiration of the Bush presidency?

Cave Job (Surprise!)

Those “maverick,” “moderate” GOP senators are at it again — as is the Fourth Estate.

Read and weep for checks and balances, for accountability, for decency, for the Republic.

I'm just about done commenting on the failure of the American experiment, guys.

Cowardly Authoritarian Cultists

I can’t think of a more apt description for supporters of BushCo.

May they reap lifelong shame and embarrassment for their blind stupidity.

Same Shit, Different Day

A party of criminal thugs controls all three branches of government. Predictably, they have royally fucked the country.

So now what?
