I got behind the curve on the rapidly unfolding tale of fake journalist/White House lackey, Jeff Gannon. Luckily, the excellent Buzzflash has the background and latest details.

Incidentally, I was watching dipshit’s press briefing when Gannon asked this question:

Thank you. Senate Democratic leaders have painted a very bleak picture of the U.S. economy. [Senate Minority Leader] Harry Reid [D-NV] was talking about soup lines. And [Senator] Hillary Clinton [D-NY] was talking about the economy being on the verge of collapse. Yet in the same breath they say that Social Security is rock solid and there's no crisis there. How are you going to work -- you've said you are going to reach out to these people -- how are you going to work with people who seem to have divorced themselves from reality?

I didn’t know whether to laugh or break something.

Update: Whoo boy, this Gannon -- er, Guckert --thing is blowing up!

Abridged version for you short-attention-span folks: A Republican operative posing as a journalist named “Jeff Gannon” was given regular access to the White House press room to ask set-up questions that would facilitate BushCo lies and distortions. Now that this fraud has been discovered, Gannon, whose real name is J.D. Guckert, has resigned from the fake news organization,“Talon News,” for whom he worked.

So, either the White House is not doing background checks on persons seated within feet of the president, or this Guckert fellow is a BushCo plant--part of a growing press payola scandal in which the administration is using taxpayer funds to distribute propaganda.

There’s much more, including “Gannon’s” previous articles stating that Kerry is gay, which, along with dozens of other Talon propaganda pieces with and without Gannon’s byline, have mysteriously disappeared from the Talon Web site.

Oh, and he's connected to the Plame leak.
