Escalate, Then Figure Out a Mission

This is precisely what's happening. Matthew Yglesias slammed it home for me:
It's not that the president has some policy initiative in mind whose operational requirements dictate a surge in force levels. Rather, locked in the prison of his own denial he came to the conclusion that he should back an escalation, prompting the current search for a mission.
Speechless.

Smithantics Supports Edwards

His vote to authorize the war is a very tough thing for me to get past, but he has repented, and I guess that's gonna have to be good enough.

He faces the enoromous challenge of beating Saint McCain, who the Republican Media will gushingly portray a father / protector / elder and the only man qualified to lead the War on Terror©.

Of course, I'll need to get off my ass and support the Edwards Campaign.

Healing Begins with Prison Terms for Criminal Politicians

I hope everyone had a great Christmas. I don’t have any brilliant commentary to provide, so I’ll just quote the dirty fucking hippie:
As we all know, because everybody on the teevee will keep repeating it, Gerald Ford's pardon of Richard Nixon was perhaps the wisest and awesomest thing anyone has ever done in the history of presidenting. Never mind that it wasn't popular at the time. Never mind that it set an awful precedent which led to the pardoning of the Iran Contra figures and transformed corrupt Nixonites into distinguished elder statesmen and Bush administration officials.

We are told again and again that what they nation needed was "to heal." That "the turmoil" needed to be over. That it was necessary to move on.

But these are the Wise Old Men talking, not of the country but of their beloved Washington. The turmoil was in their city, not in the country. While they speak as if they know what's best for us, in truth they simply know what's best for them.
Fuck the Wise Old Men of Washington.

Happy Holidaze

There’s a sociopath in the White House who hears the voice of the Great Cloud Being in his head.

I don’t have much more to say.

Merry Christmas.

BushCo 3.0

St. McCain is the heir apparent to Bush II. I don’t think any reasonable and informed observer can doubt that.

BushCo will escalate Operation Clusterfuck (30,000 more troops seems to be the consensus estimate).

Bush and McCain are united in their calls for escalation, hence the continuity that will facilitate McCain’s succession.

The MSM are dutifully echoing BushCo’s false branding of escalation as a temporary “surge.” And their gushing infatuation with St. McCain is well documented.

The stage is set.

I hope you’re not expecting a funny punchline here.

One Last Shot (Again)

Dangerous fucking clown.

And it’s not just Biden. Our entire government is in a state of denial. Our “leaders” are paralyzed by their insularity, ineptitude, and infantile sense of patriotism.

One last shot.

The incompetence is staggering.

Who in the hell are these people?

They worship at the altar of Thomas Friedman.

Happy Friday

How to ensure a John McCain presidency.

Nominate a woman or a black man as the Democratic candidate.

Straight Talk Express

He's neither credible nor moderate, yet Democrat dads across America continue to believe he is both.

This is a problem.

Maybe a Pony Will Come Along

We’re never leaving. Ever.
Gates seems to be part of the "mainstream" elite consensus which holds that Iraq is almost certainly doomed, but that we should sort of keep on prosecuting the war for years and years just because it would be embarrassing to give up and, hell, who knows maybe a pony will come along. That sort of thing works, I think, if and only if you regard the war as a total abstraction, rather than actual events happening to actual people.
So fucking true.

Dickhead Dad Resigns

Bolton has always reminded me of the asshole father of your childhood friend. You know, the mean bastard who physically disciplines your good pal right in front of you.

See ya,’ asshole.

Happy Friday

We’re never leaving Iraq. All the reports, the cable chatter, and the political posturing are meaningless. It’s fucking insulting.

BushCo violently shit the bed, and no one in a position of authority has the nuts to say what has to be said.

We need to begin pulling out. Now.

Pull out.

Impeach.

Convict.

Imprison all bedshitters.
