I Don’t Do Optimism Anymore

Okay, I’m slightly drunk and stoned, so this may come off as kinda stupid, redundant, defeatist, whatever…but I think what sets this blog apart from the others (at least the ones I’ve seen) is that it has shed all expressions of hope.

I long ago ditched the mindset that a good sharp hit to the stern of the SS BushCo might bring her down.

BushCo is not just an executive administration; it is a deeply entrenched cultural beast that transcends the purely political realm.

BushCo is your America.

The next time you drive to work, do this: count how many vehicles DON’T have ribbons.

This puppy isn’t anywhere near going away.

What? Tom Delay is gonna be the straw?

So, while I appreciate posts like this and this, I don’t get all giddy and optimistic after reading them.

After four-plus years, I know better.

Toilet Paper

Imagine if this country had a press.

Not Forgiven

For your “Me Too” campaign.

For your risk-aversion.

For your middle course.

For your utter lack of imagination.

For your utter lack of testicles.

For your subservience to the Democratic establishment.

For your inability to recognize and reject the suicidal advice of your corporate-sucking advisers.

For your astonishing refusal to spell out the enormous malevolence of BushCo.

For allowing Karl Rove to define you.

For failing us.

God, you fucked us.

Never again.

Fundie Food

If their stupidity doesn’t kill them, this monstrosity surely will.

Of course, this battleship-sized heart-stopper reminded me of a great Mark Morford essay— the title of which never fails to crack me up.

And just in case you miss the link within Morford’s piece, behold the Breakfast from Hell.

Why?

Why has our entire cultural and political discourse been taken over by the rapture right — the brainwashed, homophobic, creepy nutjobs who are so terrified of the undeniable freedom of human existence that they retreat into the ridiculous fantasy of The Great Cloud Being for comfort. Trembling idiots.

Shit, these fucking kooks are everywhere — on the news, in our politics, in our hospital rooms, our bedrooms.

Enough already with the reign of the Kool-Aid Kristian Konservatives (KKK)!

Until the spaceship comes to take these nimrods away, they need to stay the fuck out of my life.

Happy Monday!

Know Your Enemy

Sure, you’re aware that Tom Delay is complete and utter scum, but this remarkably concise and up-to-the-minute bio of the most powerful lawmaker in the country will tell you some things you didn’t know and leave you shaking your head in disgust.

(BTW: It sure is easy to get lost in Wikipedia. Go ahead, give it a try. Search for a favorite band, artist, or subject of interest.)

Jocks N’ Cocks

Okay, so the post title doesn’t exactly describe the content of the post, but I thought it had a nice ring.

Anyway, in keeping with the “Fun Friday” theme (and lord knows it’s been a grim week), let’s do another survey. This time tell us who your favorite and least favorite sports figures are and why — any era, any sport.

I’ll start.

Jerry Rice is my sports idol. He’s the reason I really got into football. Everyone knows about his unbelievable work ethic, but what I love about Rice is the importance he places on entertaining the fans. He’s always been about the fans. A true class act. Oh, and he’s the best wide receiver to ever draw breath. Yeah, he’s playing way past his shelf life, but I have trouble holding it against him. He just loves to lace ‘em up. Jerry Fuckin' Rice.

Other faves: Joe Montana, Steve Young, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Emmitt Smith.

On the complete opposite end of the spectrum is Barry Bonds. What a fucking sad case this guy is. You know, I used to be able to get past the fact that Bonds was a total asshole for the simple reason that he is (was) quite possibly the best player in the history of the game. But no more. I’ve been watching Bonds melt down over the past few weeks, and it’s just disgusting. This is a man who takes absolutely zero responsibility for his own actions. Ever the victim, Bonds blames everyone else for his self-inflicted destruction of his career and legacy (Of course, he mainly blames the press, whom he’s treated like absolute dogshit from day one). Hey, Barry, you’re a fucking liar and a juicer. Quit trundling out your kid to your press conferences (a shameful stunt) and whining like a little baby that everyone’s out to get you. No one forced you to ‘roid up and then lie your ass off about it. You’re pathetic. No wonder your teammates hate you. Take your ball and go home like the spoiled little child that you are.

Other assholes: Shaquille O'Neal, Rick Fox, Bill Romanowski, Shannon Sharpe, Greg Foster, John Rocker (remember him?).

Guys whose game I deeply respect but I don’t really like as people: Alan Iverson, Kobe Bryant, Cris Carter, Ray Lewis.

Feel free to add your own categories (and rip the shit out of my choices).

Blowing Smoke Up Our Collective Ass

The primary concern of this blog is the mainstream media’s almost complete subservience to the Republican Party. My god, I am just stunned by what I’m seeing —particularly on the cable “news” channels.

For decades the word “propaganda” has been used rather loosely by people of all political stripes. People often label as propaganda truthful or reasonably truthful information they just don’t like or want to accept.

But, holy crap, what I’m seeing on my television is authentic Soviet-style propaganda. The real fucking thing.

Oh, my god, it's getting worse every day. Seen CNN lately?

And it’s not just the distortions, the naked right-wing bias, and the flat-out dishonesty. What drives me truly fucking batshit are the lies of omission, the non-reporting of immense crimes against humanity by the total scum that is running this country.

Cable news is running interference for BushCo. Fuckin' A!

This is very, very serious. In exchange for the free use of the public airwaves, news organizations are required by law and by the standards of journalism to provide authentic hard news. They are not.

Do you guys have cable? Are you seeing what I’m seeing? Do you care?

I’m not attacking; I’m genuinely curious.

This is not a pet peeve of mine. This is insanity.

The thugs have seized power, and their crimes are shrouded in a veil of misinformation, undisguised attacks on liberals, blatant pandering to the right wing, and a slew of voyeuristic garbage passing itself off as news — Scott Peterson, Michael Jackson, Terri Schiavo, whoever the fuck got kicked off American Idol.

This is a hostile action against democracy, which is predicated on an informed populace.

America is in uncharted waters.

This Pretty Much Sucks Ass

It seems we find ourselves stuck in this hellish world of Republican supremacy. BushCo has everything pretty well locked down. Hell, they’ve worked patiently and tirelessly for at least two decades for this. Rove is enjoying the spoils of his labors.

I mean, I really don’t think these guys are going to implode. They’ve learned from the mistakes of the past.

So, for the moment, I’m tapped out.

What do you want to talk about?

Don’t Talk to Me About Scandals

Recently I heard the phrase “mounting scandal” applied to BushCo. I don’t remember which crime it was in reference to. It doesn’t matter. Do you know why?

BushCo is virtually scandal-proof — mounting or otherwise.

Let’s get serious.

We are way, waaaay past scandals, my friends

Scandals are soooo ‘80s (Iran-Contra) or ‘90s (Clinton’s cock).

C’mon, folks, it’s over.

Are you expecting Watergate II?

You know, that “history repeats itself” fantasy in which BushCo, in some predestined parallel to Nixon administration, comes crumbing down early in its second term.

Please, spare me the fatalism — the mysticism.

This is not 1974.

History buffs need not apply.

This country is over.

Repeat.

This country is over.

No WMD.

No scandal.

Horrendous photographic and documentary evidence of White House-sponsored torture.

No scandal.

Presidential Daily Briefing of August 6, 2001 stating that bin Laden is “determined to strike inside the United States” is made public.

No scandal.

Dick Cheney’s Halliburton logs a record of unprecedented corruption, war-profiteering, and pillaging of taxpayer funds in Iraq.

No scandal.

A gay prostitute is exposed as a White House press room plant.

No scandal.

Insufficient armor for troops.

No scandal.

Absolute filth falsely adorned in the robes of Christian morality taking this country to hell.

No scandal.

FYI: The Great Reckoning is not coming.

The pendulum ain’t swingin’ our way.

This country is over.

Don’t talk to me about scandals.

The Kings?

Sorry for the Sacto-centric post, but I have a question:

What the hell am I supposed to make of the current Kings lineup?

To this layman, it appears that the pride of Sacramento (and the only game in town) has been downgraded to one of those bargain-basement teams filled with no-names --think the Atlanta Hawks or the Golden State Warriors -- who beat us last night.

WTF is going on?

Who are these guys?

Clarification: I have nothing against the new players on the team. They seem like good guys, and some of them have good game. It's just weird seeing how fast the team has changed. I miss Divac, Pollard, Christie, even Webber. I know I can't live in the past -- especially in the revolving door that is the NBA -- but it just feels as if ownership has downgraded the team. I mean, the Kings have absolutely no chance of getting a ring this year. What's going on?

Bush Cock Receptacle

Here’s a transcript of the Sunday talk shows.

There, I just saved you from three hours of agony.

You’re welcome.

By the way, do you have to be a news junkie to laugh out loud at this? – like I did when I read it.

Note: David Broder — widely referred to as "the Dean of the Washington press corps” — is a paid Republican propagandist masquerading as an eminently objective political journalist.

|

Culture of Life

The Evil Lizard People* — led by Grand Lizard, Tom Delay — are exploiting the Terri Schiavo tragedy in order to further galvanize the throngs of defective hillbilly fucks that comprise the Republican base.

May they burn in hell.

* In the year 2014, facing ultimate defeat, the Republicans will unzip their false skins and reveal their true identities.

We’ve Fully Crossed Over

Dear Cable Conspirator Whores:

This.

Is.

Not.

Fucking.

News.

And neither the fuck is this!

Signed,

The guy who is sick and fucking tired of having his intelligence insulted by your shameless, voyeuristic, war-crime-ignoring fellating of the White House.

I am not a fucking child. You can’t thoroughly dismantle authentic television journalism and news reporting, replace it with 24 hours of Jerry fucking Springer, and expect me not to fucking notice.

I’m about to go fucking postal.

Nah, They’ll Just Put More Magnetic Fucking Ribbons on Their SUVS

Via Atrios:
About 40% of Republicans want to go to war with North Korea, Syria, and Iran.

I'm sure these patriotic people will get busy driving their sons and daughters to the recruitment center.
Oh, yes indeed.

I so hate what has become of this country.

We are surrounded by certified imbeciles.

Like you need me to tell you that.

Drank the Kool-Aid

How disappointing. The normally excellent Bill Maher was giving BushCo the thumbs up on Iraq on his HBO program.

I thought you were smarter than that, Bill.

Then again, you supported the invasion early on. But I thought you wised up.

What an asswipe.

Oh Please God, No

Does anyone remember that really bad Scorpions song about the end of the cold war and the fall of the Berlin Wall, called “Winds of Change”?

If you don’t, congratulations.

If you do, you’ll be as sickened as I am that the MSM are resurrecting this cold war cliché to describe a fantastical BushCo-orchestrated “democratic transformation” of the Middle East.

Oh, man, this is gonna be awful.

We are about to be bombarded with a new BushCo media narrative. It goes like this:
The decision to invade Iraq was right, as evidenced by the democratic revolutions now sweeping the Middle East. Iraq is the centerpiece of the Bush presidency, and the success of Iraq and the democratic domino effect it has initiated in the Middle East therefore validates the Bush presidency and invalidates criticism of the Iraq war by the left. Bush is triumphant. Liberals are left scrambling to find their identity in a world where they are increasingly irrelevant.
Yes, the winds of democratic change are blowing through the Arab world, thanks exclusively to BushCo. The whining liberal doubters are left with egg on their faces. Why vote anything but Republican from here on out?

This message is going to resonate big time because Americans love to pat themselves on the back — even when the premise of their self congratulation is patently false.

Cuz, guess what? If anyone believes that American military power is being deployed in the Middle East, or anywhere else on this planet, to bring true democracy, a political philosophy rooted in equality, justice, and human rights, I have a signed Paul Wolfowitz pinup for you.

It’s gonna get worse, guys.

A now fully Kremlin-ized American media is telling the yellow-ribbon idiots that they were right to support the war. Meanwhile, the real BushCo global agenda advances under the guise of democracy.

It’s really bad.

It’s worse than that Scorpions song.

Note on the link: The term "neoliberalism" is virtually synomymous with "neoconservatism."

“That Fuckin’ Dick”

Here’s something that’s been bumping around my head lately.

Does anyone outside of the kool-aid guzzlers actually believe that Condoleeza Rice is an authentic Secretary of State?

That she is — as defined in the American Political Dictionary — responsible for “formulating policies and conducting relations with foreign states” ?

That she has even a modicum of independence?

Does anyone truly believe that this article of window dressing so much as uses the State Department coffeemaker with out Dick Cheney’s express written permission?

Seriously.

I just have to laugh when the Bush-suckling media whores portray Condliar as a bona fide Cabinet official.

Yeah, and those Bush “Town Hall Meetings” are real as well.

Cruising Altitude in this Nightmare

As I mentioned earlier, I’ve started a new job, and I’ve made the decision not to blog on my employer’s dime. I just don’t possess the discipline necessary to do my personal Web stuff on breaks and/or in small doses. I mean, ripping off the company was fine when I worked for Halliburton’s little brother, but I rather like my new employer, and my conscience is telling me to go legit. I know, pansy.

This in no way means the end of SmithAntics. It just means that I may not be posting as frequently or in as timely a manner as before. I’ll be blogging mainly in the evening. And on the weekends I intend to put up some more substantive posts. So please keep checking in, and I’d appreciate your patience while I make this transition (Jeezus, I’m writing as if I have a massive readership).

Anyway, I sat down at the computer tonight eager to dig into the lefty Web and find out what fresh hell BushCo has brought today — and of course I looked forward to blogging about it.

But guess what? All I found was garden variety fascism.

Sure, they tried to murder a left-wing Italian journalist. Hell yes, they appointed a unilateralist, neocon asshole as envoy to the UN. Yeah, a bunch of Democratic lawmakers are corporate-sucking swine. And of course, we must be living in a nightmare, because no cosmically just universe could allow a gang of criminal, war-profiteering, pig-fucking garbage to politically thrive and garner the love and support of millions.

But, amazingly, this is nothing new. This is everyday life on Planet BushCo.

Is this just how it’s gonna be?

Have we plateaued in hell?

Fuck, it sure feels like it.

Let ‘em Eat Lead

Does the SUV-ribbon, head-in-the-sand, dumbfuck crowd know about this?

Would it make any difference?

The kool-aid guzzlers have no fucking clue what scum they worship.

God, I hate them with every molecule.

PS: Bear with me if posting is a bit light. I’ll be doing my blogging in the evening now (i.e., not at work), and I’m not gonna force it if there’s nothing to inspire me to post. I’ll try to put up at least one goodie a day.

Deer in the Headlights

I can no longer stomach the Sunday morning talk shows, so I follow the coverage on the blogs. Today I hear that House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi allowed herself to be kicked around by FOX’s Sunday morning Nazi Chris Wallace. Apparently, Pelosi stumbled and bumbled under Wallace’s demands for answers on how the Democrats are going to “fix” Social Security. This lack of message discipline in simply inexcusable. The House minority leader walks into the cheap right-wing circus tricks of FOX news and chokes.

Infuriating!

Purge the party of these corporate-sponsored, weak-ass, professional losers.

Administrative note: I am starting a new job, so posting will probably be very light this week.

My Ribbon Makes the Truth Go Away

Yesterday I saw a moron wearing a t-shirt with one of those idiotic yellow ribbons that read:

“Support the Troops with Prayer”

Yes, by all means, be a dumb herd animal. Suck up that Kool-Aid. It’s much easier that way

Display your talisman against the reality that a gang of the most amoral war-profiteering swine this country has ever known has lied your beloved dirt-poor troops into a bloody, cosmically expensive, and wholly unnecessary quagmire with no end in sight, so Halliburton, Boeing, and Lockheed can reap maximum fortune.

Oh, and while your at it, absolve yourself of all personal responsibility by calling upon The Great Cloud Being to watch over the soldiers—and your pathetic, Bush-suckling, stupid ass.

|

1500

Seriously. Please congratulate a Bush voter for this. This blood is on their hands.

|

Defective Unit

It’s difficult to pull a teaser quote from this article, because it’s so brimming with absurdity.

Seriously, assclowns like this should be put to sleep.

Shit, just think how much nicer of a world it would be if all the BushCo Neanderthals were simply vaporized.

Yeah, I’ve reached that point.

God, I Hate This Lying Fuck

Why it has taken me this long to post about this asshole is beyond me. He is, after all, the governor of my state. Perhaps it’s because there’s really not much to say about the Gropenfurher that most of you don’t already know. Despite minor ideological differences, he is BushCo’s man in California.

Like BushCo, he campaigned as a moderate "reform" candidate and then swung hard right once in office. Like BushCo, he seized power in an illegal coup. Like BushCo, he is advancing a pro-business, anti-worker agenda. Like BushCo, he is using a corporate-induced economic crisis to push pro-corporate economic policies. Like BushCo, he is seeking to dismantle the public realm. Like BushCo, he has no compunction about lying his ass off. Like BushCo, he is adored by legions of asstards

Oh, and he has a long and well-documented history of molesting women. Shit, I’m not sure even Bush has pinned a woman against the wall of an elevator and sexually assaulted her. But he’s a Rethuglican, so of course he's not held to the Clinton standard of sexual conduct.

Anyway, I guess I just needed to get on record that I despise the bastard.

Imagine….

A radio version of this blog of rage...

only about a thousand times better.

That's The Mike Malloy Show on Air America.

I tune in every weeknight at 7:00 PM on 1240 AM in Sacramento.

Yes, I turn off the idiot box and actually listen to a radio program--just like in olden times. It's great. Malloy is a fountain of righteous indignation and BushCo-hating fury. And he's funny, too.

Do yourself a favor and listen.

Crazy as a Communist Loon

Dean is out there advancing a progressive message of hope, speaking of a world without false-Christian, fascist swine.

And the Rethuglican media is going cast him as a raving lunatic.

And the sheeple will lap it up.

Fucking idiots.
